I have never known how to pray with my knees together.
Even now, as I sit in this body—brown, baptized, begging for touch—I cannot tell where the sermon ends and the sin begins. Holy Communion dissolves on my tongue like a forbidden kiss, and I wonder… does God taste like this too? Sweet, dissolving, shameful.
I was raised to fold my legs and my longings. To sit in pews and clench thighs, to sing hymns louder than the ache between my legs. I learned that salvation had a scent: stale wood varnish, wet hymn books, incense—heavy as guilt. I learned that sex was not for girls like me. Sex was for sinners. For white women on billboards. For men who could pray with their zippers undone. But me? I was for God. For keeping. For closing.
And yet…
I cannot seem to close.
This body is a hymn I cannot stop humming.
They warned me about carnal desire.
Not in those words, of course. The language was more… Kenyan. More colonial missionary in its cadence. “Keep your purity,” they said, like it was something I could bottle. Like my skin wasn’t already slick with wanting.
My mother never told me what to do when Holy Communion melts on my tongue… but so does the wanting. That thin, dissolving wafer — it’s supposed to be the body of Christ, the taste of salvation, the sacred dissolving into flesh.
But all I can think about… is Him. The other him. The one who isn’t nailed to a cross but pressed against my spine, whispering sins sweeter than scripture.
The wafer softens, disintegrates — and for a moment, I swear… I can taste God.
Not the sanitized, church-approved God. But the God of salt and skin. Of sweat tangled in bedsheets. The God that tastes like surrender, like slipping, like sin you moan your way through.
I let it sit there — the holy, the hunger — dissolving into the roof of my mouth, the back of my throat, the pit of my stomach. And I wonder…
Does God always taste like this?
Soft.
Forbidden.
Sweet as guilt and twice as hard to swallow.
The church taught me to confess. But I never mastered the art of confessing the truth:
I crave.
I ache.
I study my sin like scripture, underline every shameful thought, highlight every wet prayer whispered into the dark.
And when I finally let my body become its own gospel, I didn’t feel saved. I felt split.
Feral with want. Fragile with worship.
Is it possible to come and still be a Christian?
The first time I let a boy taste what I’d been hoarding for heaven, I wept after. Not because it hurt—because it didn’t. Not because I regretted it—because I didn’t. But because somewhere between his lips and my thighs, I lost my coordinates. I became unmoored from the virgin map they drew for me in Sunday School.
God and I… we’ve been negotiating ever since.
Some days, I trade scripture for skin.
Other days, I kneel in pews with his fingerprints still drying on my hips, wondering if the Holy Spirit can smell my sin.
Desire is not something I feel—it’s something I dissect.
I study my lust like it’s a philosophy degree I never applied for. I theorize on wetness. I annotate moans. I pace my pleasure like an oral exam I intend to pass—with honors.
But my faith… my faith is less coherent.
It comes in fragments. The way his breath fogs my window. The way communion wine stains my lips. The way my thighs press together when the choir hits that note that sounds suspiciously like seduction.
Kenyan girls like me were raised to be good.
But my body?
My body is fluent in contradiction.
A bilingual mess of gospel and gasps.
And here I am—a sexually conflicted sinner with a PhD in ache.
Still attending Holy Communion with desire coiled like a serpent under my dress.
Still whispering apologies to God between orgasms.
Still wanting to be both… sacred and soaked.
Still believing the body is a sentence, and my lover? A paragraph I can’t stop rereading—pausing, underlining, sinning in the margins.
I do not have answers.
Only confessions.
Only the gospel of my thighs.
Only the slow, aching knowledge that maybe, just maybe…
God made me this way.
Hungry.
Holy.
And hopelessly undone.

Oh my God I have NEVER felt so seen before!! This was sooo beautiful!!!
Damn
