I write to you as one writes to an occupying force: not to negotiate affection, but to establish record.
You have lived with me long enough that silence would be complicity.
You arrived early. You did not knock. You announced yourself through the body first — tight chest, vigilant spine, breath rationed like a wartime resource. Before I had language, you trained me in anticipation. Before I had theory, you taught me consequence. I did not feel you so much as I learned you, the way one learns a dangerous history by living inside it.
You have been described as illness, as disorder, as chemistry gone rogue. I reject these euphemisms. They flatter you with neutrality. You are not neutral. You are moral pressure. You are fear rehearsed until it mistakes itself for foresight.
You told me you were protection. That you were the smoke alarm of the psyche. That without you I would burn. This is how all tyrannies begin: with a promise of safety, delivered through panic. You sharpened my attention until vigilance became religion. I watched rooms before entering them. I studied faces like contested texts. I learned that a single word — Hey. — could be an indictment. You trained me to read tone as threat, silence as verdict, delay as abandonment.
This was not intuition. This was indoctrination.
I speak now as a woman obligated to truth. The evidence is extensive. You made my body a courtroom where every thought stood trial. You turned pleasure into liability, rest into negligence, joy into something that required justification. You interrupted my meals, my sleep, my intimacy — not with spectacle, but with procedure. Paperwork of the soul. Endless audits of worth and outcome.
You were intimate in the most dangerous way. You learned my patterns. You exploited my intelligence. You dressed yourself as rigor. You convinced me that overthinking was depth, that control was care, that rehearsing catastrophe was maturity. You did not dull me — you overdeveloped me until discernment collapsed under its own weight.
This is where the love enters, unwillingly.
Because you did not only destroy. You also instructed.
From you, I learned how seriously I take life. How intolerable injustice feels in my mouth. How deeply I want to do no harm. You revealed my appetite for meaning by punishing me for every perceived failure to uphold it. You showed me my capacity for endurance. You broke me down methodically, and in doing so, forced me to build an interior architecture no one could see but me.
Still, let the record show: the cost was obscene.
You mistook sensitivity for weakness and exploited it. You punished imagination by chaining it to consequence. You convinced a brilliant mind that it was dangerous to rest. You made me doubt my own pulse. This was not guidance. This was coercion.
I do not absolve you because I understand you.
You are an abusive lover, a monster, a houseguest who overstayed the century... You exaggerate. You exhaust. You call this survival.
Here is my judgment:
You are real, but you are not sovereign.
You are a signal, not a sentence. You are information corrupted by fear. You may speak, but you do not decide. I will not banish you — history shows that exiles return as ghosts — but I will demote you. You will no longer sit at the head of the table. You will no longer narrate my future.
I will use you sparingly, as one uses fire: for warmth, not worship.
I am no longer interested in managing you through shame or heroics. I do not need to conquer you to outgrow you. I have learned that discipline is quieter than domination. That peace is not the absence of vigilance, but the refusal to obey it blindly.
This is not forgiveness.
It is governance.
You taught me to survive. I am now learning to live.
History requires that I say this plainly: you were never love.
You were a lesson that stayed too long.
And I have studied enough.
If my work touched you, show some love → https://selar.com/showlove/lusciousdiaries
